Slightly-interesting weeaboo story

I’ll start my tale by providing some background info about myself. 

I watched Pokemon and Cardcaptor Sakura from a very young age, but didn’t know it was anime until 6^th grade when my friends introduced me to Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Inuyasha.  If I ever had a weeaboo phase it would have probably been sometime between 8^th and 9^th grade.  I wasn’t too bad though,  no wapanese, no immature screaming/behavior; If I shat out any insufferable OCs I kept them to my most intimate friend circle.  Though one day for high school spirit week, when we could dress up as our favorite fictional character, I dressed up as Ed Elric, a decision that still haunts me to this day.  Also I was one of those “LOL RaNdOmZ!!!!111!1” kind of people when I was like, 14, but I grew out of that fast. 

So anyways, as freshmen, my friend K and I found out there was an “Oriental Culture” club that just started up.  We knew, of course, it was anime club, but they had to make it sound academic in order to get permission to found it.  We decided to check it out.  Predictably, it was full of weebs and weirdos.  The first meeting, some actual Asian non-anime fans came, thinking it was a general “oriental culture” club, only to discover it was a bunch of squealing, pimply-faced white folk that had no interest in anything other than “Nihongo” stuff.  I saw the disappointment on their faces as they left early.  I genuinely felt bad for them. 

We did a few charity activities to keep club status like ringing bells for the Salvation Army outside of Walmart, but mostly we just watched anime.  Subbed anime.   I don’t object to subbed anime, but I just happen to prefere dubs, and past experience has taught me that people can get really snobby about subs.  So the club presidents…One was a senior, she had the same name as my friend K but she absolutely insisted everyone call her “Pharaoh.”  Whenever we watched anything, any anime, she would squeal loudly about how badly she wanted the two main male characters to make out, like “Can you imagine if they made love to eachother?!?!”  The other president was also a senior we’ll call M.  My description of him wont’ seem so bad until later. He was the soft-spoken sort but K would inform me that whenever I missed a meeting, he would ask where I was.   He would sometimes come up to me in the hall and ask me stuff like had I ever heard of such and such anime, I would tell him truthfully, no, and he would go “okay” very sad, and slink off. 

Fast forward to the end of the year.   Everyone’s in a yearbook signing frenzy.  He comes up to me and wants us to sign yearbooks.  As I’m signing his, he comes right out and says, “You know E, I like you.  A lot.  I’d like if we could go out sometime.”  And asks if he could have my phone number.  I tell him if he writes his in my yearbook I’ll call him sometime.  He writes.  I never call.  Ever.  I was 15 at the time and he was probably 18 or 19. 

A year or two later, I found out he’s one of those “hits on anything with legs” type of guys.  He had at one point dated my friend J, but they broke up because he was to anime obsessive for her.  Sometime later, I find out he’d started courting my friend M.  They ended up going out on a single date.  My friend said yes out of pity/curiosity.  She told me the whole time all he wanted to talk about was anime and when she didn’t know something, he acted very superior and rude to her.  My friend M is very intelligent, and if there’s one thing she can’t stand, it’s condescension.  Apparently, she was the first girl he’d ever asked out who didn’t say no.  He started sending her creepy mopey love messages and showed up uninvited to her 4^th of July barbeque.  He plunked himself down on a lawn chair and refused to leave despite everyone in her family telling him to skedaddle.  I forget how M eventually shook him, but I believe he’s long since moved out of our town, though I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he’s still the creep we all knew. 

tl;dr:  anime club is run by creepy weebs, one of them courts me and all my friends in a creepy manner.

Anon: I’m Japanese apparently

This isn’t as horrific as some of the stories here but it’s still rather weird. 

As I’m interested in cultures of other countries, I often use some of my free time to do my own research on different racial groups. One day I went to an anime convention with some friends. It was a usual convention there were some good cosplay’s and some…not so good cosplay’s. There was also a Dealer’s room where people would people could purchase Manga’s or Plush dolls etc. and this is where I came across…her.
